Yes, we did and Yes, we can!

Who could ever imagine a summer without camp?   Within days of the pandemic “hitting” our Jewish Community, we knew the need for children to play outside, make new friends and celebrate Jewish values and camp traditions had to happen – no matter what.  Everything around us was closed.  Every connector to Jewish engagement including our synagogues were forced to be closed for in person gatherings.

It was crucial to open camp this summer and given all the strenuous protocols, our courageous 68 summer staff served 180 campers with ZERO COVID cases.  It was critical for our families to regain their footing and strengthen their mental health from being in quarantine and isolation.  We know that Jewish camping is one of the strongest factors in creating a lifelong love of Jewish learning, culture, and connection to Israel.

The impact was unimaginable.

“Thank you for everything --The time, effort and courage it took to start to ‘get back to camp’ -- actually taking the risk to open.  The first day of camp there was a major change in my kids. They were actually happy, and kids being kids. Since we shut down in March I didn’t see my kids like that AT ALL. And the more we stayed home, the worse it got. Camp was the BEST for them. Thanks for helping me raise my girls, they are better people because of the JCC Abrams Camp.”  -JCC Camp Parent

“Camp means everything to me. I can confidently say that who I am at camp is who I really am. Camp makes me feel so comfortable in my own skin and at college I am not nearly as confident and outgoing. I always tell my parents that I am my best self  and happiest self when I am at camp. The past 6 summers I’ve spent at camp have changed me in ways I didn’t even know were possible.  -JCC Staff member

Please help us continue our mission.

Our “Yes we can” approach is what we will continue to lead by.  However, right now, we need our communities help to sustain daily operations, increase our scholarships for those families that can’t afford camp and continue to provide engaging programs for our community of all ages. While there is a lot of uncertainty, we know that now, more than ever, our community needs us.  And we need you.  During this giving season, please open your hearts to our JCC so that we can open camp even bigger and change more lives.  Be the difference maker for our children’s future and for the growth of Jewish life within our community.

In times of crisis, in times of celebration, and hopefully soon, in times of post-COVID, the JCC will continue to be here for our Jewish community.

Strength to Strength,
